Drexel University URBN Center and URBN Center Annex

An Iconic Building Gains a New Lease on Life

The creation of Drexel University’s URBN Center preserved a historically significant four-story steel and concrete building designed by Venturi, Scott Brown Associates. Concurrent to the renovation of 3501 Market Street, Turner adapted the attached 3401 Filbert Street building into the URBN Center Annex. The total project encompasses 145,917 sq. ft. of renovation and is the home of the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts and Design.

The URBN project houses art studios, classrooms, offices for the dean and faculty, an art gallery, a black box theater, and screening rooms. Significant features of the construction include the preservation and protection of existing mural artwork, the installation of a new multi-story atrium in 3501 Market Street, and the infill of a one-story high courtyard in 3401 Filbert Street.
