Expansion of the Hilton Columbus Downtown

Changing the Skyline of Columbus to create Ohio's Largest Hotel

Transforming the Downtown Columbus skyline, the Hilton Downtown Columbus Hotel underwent a remarkable expansion. This 29-story addition, spanning 460,000 square feet, was constructed on a site of less than 1 acre in a densely urban area while navigating stringent zero lot line restrictions. This site was situated on the southwest corner of the bustling Greater Columbus Convention Center along North High Street and was tightly restricted by bridges and railway. This new tower boasts an impressive addition of 463 guestrooms, 54,000 square feet of meeting space, a relaxed lobby bar, a rooftop bar, multiple dining establishments and a new guest registration area.

One of the project's notable feats involved connecting it to the existing Hilton pedestrian sky bridge spanning North High Street. Structural tie-ins to the pedestrian sky bridge, a corridor above the convention center ballroom and a connector corridor under the High Street bridge allowed seamless integration into the existing Hilton.

Furthermore, the LEED Gold design incorporated several challenging and unique items into the facility such as a complex rainwater harvesting system which provided recycled make up water to the roof top cooling towers through a 12,000 gallon underground tank and a 20,000 tank located in the center of the building on the fourth floor. A green roof located above the grand ballroom was also a part of the storm water management system.

Hilton Tower Rises Over Columbus

Rising 361 feet above ground level, the construction of the Hilton tower marks the tallest building constructed in downtown Columbus in the past three decades, securing its place as the 12th tallest building in downtown Columbus. With this expansion, the Hilton Downtown Columbus now holds the distinction of being Ohio's largest hotel, with a grand total of 1,000 rooms.
