Barnard College, The Milstein Center

Barnard's Milstein Center features a five-story base that rises in a series of green-roof terraces and an 11-story tower that is connected to Altschul Hall. The interdisciplinary building is home to numerous academic centers, and features a 40,000 sq. ft. library that serves as its focal point. Turner safeguarded students and faculty from construction activity by installing an above ground corridor that allowed them to traverse between the campus' north and south ends safely. In addition to weekly meetings, an e-mail notification system was used to communicate potential disruptions to students, faculty and the immediate community. Furthermore, the team overcame a five-week delay by optimizing the steel erection schedule through the use of Last Planner. Overall, the Milstein Center was completed on-time and with a cost savings to the client.
