August Wilson African American Cultural Center

Celebrating the Life and Legacy of an Iconic Pittsburgh Playwright

The home of the August Wilson African American Cultural Center is located on the corner of Liberty Avenue and 10th Street, in the Cultural District of Downtown Pittsburgh. This new facility was dedicated to presenting, interpreting, and preserving the art, culture, and history of African Americans in Pittsburgh, as well as people of African descent throughout the world. The building is a 2-story, 63,200-sq. ft. mixed-use facility which houses a museum, flexible exhibit space, and a 486-seat performing arts theater with an orchestra pit and fly loft. In addition, the building includes educational spaces and a gift shop/café/kitchen. Two associate partners worked in collaboration with Turner: Sterling Contracting and Ebony Development, which are both African American-owned businesses based in Pittsburgh.
