Nick Barker Recognized as a Top Young Professional by ENR Texas & Louisiana

February 09, 2018

Engineering News-Record's regional publication for Texas and Louisiana recently recognized Nick Barker (right), manager of the Dallas Special Projects Division, as one of their 2018 Top Young Professionals.

Jerry Crawford, vice president and general manager, cited Nick's personal commitment, leadership skills, and professionalism in celebrating the recognition. "Those of us that have worked with Nick know this recognition is well-deserved," he said. "He sets a great example, driving himself and our team to improve each and every day, he is passionate about giving back to the communities in which we work, and he is always looking for ways to create and sustain the right environment -- within our team and more broadly within our community."

For his own part, Nick was proud that his recognition reflected well on Turner, and was eager to share the achievement with his teammates and those who have inspired him throughout his career so far. "I have been fortunate to work with some amazing leaders – without those professional and personal influences I wouldn't be where I am today," he said. "They continue to inspire me with their strong emotional intelligence and their ability to balance factual analytical ability with the true gut check." He continued, "Awards like these are a reminder that staying humble, hard work, and following through on every commitment no matter the size, will pay dividends in the long run."

And, he added—in true Turner fashion—that while he appreciates the nod, he's ready to get back to work.

A Vanderbilt graduate with degrees in civil engineering and mathematics, Nick spent the first part of his career in the Southern California region, and the most recent part managing a number of key projects in Texas, including the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport Consolidated Headquarters Facility, Deloitte University, and Verizon Wireless Data Center. The Special Projects Division he leads includes more than 65 professionals who deliver projects ranging from $100,000 to $50 million. He is active in the Dallas Chamber of Commerce 2018 Leadership Dallas program.
