Turner's Boston Office Donates Mac And Cheese To Revere Veterans Services

Turner's Boston Office Donates Mac And Cheese To Revere Veterans Services

Turner’s office in Boston recently donated more than 2,000 boxes of macaroni and cheese to Revere Veterans Services, a local coordinator of food drives and other support for former servicemen and women and their families.

“A few weeks ago, I ran into a cousin of mine that works with the Veterans Affairs Department and mentioned that Turner would like to find a way to partner and make a difference,” said Allison Ferrari, office manager for Boston. “When I reached out for more information and to make arrangements, I learned they have a monthly food drive that serves more than 400 families. So I asked her what they needed. They told me there is such a demand for mac and cheese that they can’t keep it on the shelves! So we decided to focus on that.”

Knowing the generosity of her co-workers, Allison suggested they might be able to supply 300 to 400 boxes, but didn’t want to make any promises. “The woman I spoke to seemed overwhelmed and impressed by the idea of those numbers,” added Allison, who immediately set about drumming up support at Turner. “We named the drive the Veterans Mac Attack and put up posters at all jobsites and around the office to raise awareness.”

In addition to posters, Allison tried a unique awareness-raising tactic: “I also got some toy soldiers, glued elbow macaroni to them, and sent them around to individuals at jobsites and in the office,” she said. “We asked that they take a photo of the soldier in a creative place and share with everyone. They came up with some great photos that inspired others to get involved, and the boxes started rolling in.” In the end, the office dramatically exceeded their own expectations, collecting thousands of boxes of mac and cheese.

Revere Veterans Services was appreciative – and moved – by the effort, writing, “We are so overwhelmed by the generosity of Turner and all the hard work that went into this project!  We stayed up there for a few minutes just staring at everything!  We are both criers and were so moved by what you all did for our veterans.  They are going to be so happy!” ??
