May 15, 2012

Matt Kunz, Purchasing Agent, recently joined the Board of Directors for the Design-Build Institute of America’s Colorado chapter. In addition to Kunz’s new responsibilities as a Board member, he also serves as DBIA’s Committee Chair for New Membership.

Kunz joined Turner Construction in January of 2006 at The Lathrop Company (Toledo, OH division of Turner Construction) on a $600M Construction Management program for Toledo Public Schools and the State of Ohio. He then moved into Lathrop’s Special Projects Division in late 2006 working on The Shops at Fallen Timbers and Spartan Chemical Corporations Headquarters both in Maumee, OH. Kunz transferred to Turner’s Denver office in 2007 and was promoted to SPD Senior Project Manager in 2009 running projects such as the Cheyenne Mountain Resort renovation. Kunz became a Purchasing Agent for Turner in 2011 and has been working on the Department of Veteran Affairs Hospital in Aurora, CO. Kunz graduated from Bowling Green State University in 2005 with a Construction Management degree.

The Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) is a membership organization that was founded in 1993 to advocate and advance single-source project delivery within the design and construction community. The Rocky Mountain Region of the DBIA was founded in 2002 to focus on this objective throughout Colorado, Montana, Utah, and Wyoming. The design-build method of project delivery embraces architecture, engineering, and construction services under a single contract, thereby re-integrating the roles of designer and constructor. The DBIA Rocky Mountain Region’s members include practitioners from all project phases, as well as public and private sector project owners. The DBIA works to disseminate best practices by hosting and conducting educational programs and conferences throughout the year. In addition, within the Rocky Mountain region, the organization supports research and education focused on the design-build process through its annual design-build award contest for collegiate chapters.
