Turner Breaks Ground on Eco-Friendly Tansky Toyota project

April 26, 2012

As owners of Tansky Sawmill Toyota, a 3rd generation family-owned Toyota dealership, Tom and Judy Tansky have long been advocates of protecting the environment for future generations. They continually strive to live a green lifestyle personally and professionally.  As a professor at The Ohio State University, Judy, a Ph.D., also educates students about corporate social responsibility.

When it came time to renovate and expand the family dealership, the Tansky’s enlisted Turner Construction Company, the leading sustainable builder in the state and in the U.S., and designer Architectural Alliance, to make the dealership as eco-friendly as possible.

“Tom and I really pushed the environmental features and wanted to invest in them, because we are concerned about protecting the environment for our family and the communities we serve,” said Judy. “We believe it is the right thing to do.”

The phased expansion and renovation of Columbus’ oldest Toyota dealership ceremoniously broke ground, and celebrated the start of construction on what will be Ohio’s first LEED Certified automotive dealership.

“We are really pleased to be working with Tansky Sawmill Toyota on this innovative project,” said Kyle Rooney, Turner’s general manager for Columbus. “This project is really a testament to the owners’ commitment to sustainability and could serve as a model for other dealerships looking to become environmentally friendly.”

Green features of the dealership include high-performance heating and cooling, and electrical systems, a recycled rainwater water system that will feed toilets and the on-site car wash, and rapidly renewable materials such as bamboo, and Turner's delivery approach will incorporate Lean construction methods, including off-site prefabrication of exterior walls, and just-in-time deliveries.
