Turner Sponsors Living Wall Educational Event at Drexel University

March 12, 2012

Drexel University and the Delaware Valley Green Building Council hosted a networking event to teach guests about the 22-foot wide, 80-foot tall bio-wall Turner built in the lobby of the university’s Papadakis Integrated Sciences Building. The wall, which is the largest bio-filter in North America, and the only wall of its kind in a university, works in conjunction with the building’s HVAC system to achieve outdoor-quality indoor air.

The wall is made up of twelve varieties of tropical plants that grow in layers of woven material through which water and nutrients are circulated. The building’s HVAC system pulls air through the wall and microbes living on the plants roots break down airborne volatile organic compounds.
