Philadelphia

Since the 1960s, Turner's community outreach has grown to include educational partnerships, community service, special initiatives, the promotion of small businesses owned by women and minorities, sponsorship opportunities and fundraising. Below are a number of programs and initiatives in which Turner participates as a developer or a sponsor.

The Turner School of Construction Management
Since 1979, Turner’s Philadelphia office has awarded more than $700 million to business enterprises owned by minorities, women and the disabled. We are particularly proud of the 54% minority participation on the nationally acclaimed Philadelphia Eagles' Lincoln Financial Field Project, and attributed a large part of this success to the Turner School of Construction Management.

This program was developed to educate minority and women-owned small businesses about safety, finances, purchasing, and marketing. Turner School of Construction Management sessions are offered in Philadelphia and throughout the region.

National Society of Black Engineers
This 2011-2012 college recruiting season, Turner launched a Turner National Society of Black Engineers Outreach Initiative. For many years, Turner grew its relationship with the National Society of Black Engineers through recruiting efforts at the organization's annual national convention, and through local Chapter sponsorships. This initiative will begin its pilot phase in the New York, Chicago, Baltimore, Somerset and Philadelphia offices.

Geared to increase the number of qualified minority candidates for full-time and internship/co-op opportunities, our Turner National Society of Black Engineers volunteers will help mentor young members through offering personal support, visiting jobsites, and helping to improve their resumes and interview skills.

The George Washington Carver High School Career Day and Internship Program
Turner staff works with Carver High School to organize career days twice a year for the 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students.

ACE Mentor Program
Turner participates in the Ace Mentor Program in conjunction with Charter High School for Architecture and Design, O’Donnell and Naccarato, Ballinger, Wick Fisher White, and Santos Levy.

The mission of the ACE Program is to enlighten and motivate students towards architecture, construction, engineering and related careers and to provide
scholarship and mentor opportunities for future designers and construction professionals. Each year, local employees volunteer to work with students as they develop their capstone projects.

American Heart Association Heart Walk
Turner is a sponsor of the American Heart Association’s November Heart Walk. In 2010, our staff raised more than $38,000 for research with a series of staff-organized fundraisers.

Habitat for Humanity
Turner’s Philadelphia office has sponsored the annual Habitat for Humanity fundraising luncheon for the past two years, and has sponsored volunteer workdays on Habitat building sites. The Philadelphia office has also provided the Habitat for Humanity program with safety supplies such as hard hats, gloves and goggles for their volunteers.
