Willis Tower Repositioning

Construction and renovation of 450,000 square feet of lobby, amenity, and retail space. Work included the demolition of the existing base and removal of structure below grade to rebuild a cohesive podium for the Tower.

First and second floor lobbies were renovated, providing each a new entry experience, yet remaining part of a unified design, staying spatially and visually connected. Most of the added space is on the building’s south side, beneath the skylight branded “Catalog” – a historic nod to the Sears Corporation. This is the Skydeck visitors’ entrance, allowing direct access to amenities without crossing tenant-oriented lobbies. Above Catalog, surrounding the skylight is a 30,000 square foot roof deck, the largest of the outdoor spaces. The podium exterior is architecturally cohesive with the Franklin and Wacker entrances featuring white terra cotta clad portals while the base façade boasts glass bays punctured by varied black and gray colored terra cotta tiles and black metal channels.
