Engaging in Professional Partnerships
Turner is committed to expanding the opportunities available to minority and women owned businesses (M/WBEs). Our objective is to partner with these growing firms through outreach and education. Since 1979, total awards to M/WBEs on our projects and involvement with M/WBE joint venture partnerships have exceeded $20 billion. The company has been recognized nationwide-and has received more than 200 awards for leadership in promotion and professional mentorship of such businesses.
Supporting Small Business Owners
In 1969, in an effort to improve the economic viability of M/WBEs and increase the number and quality of opportunities available to growing businesses, Turner developed the Turner School of Construction Management, a construction management training program. Each course is taught by Turner staff and includes such topics as risk management, construction estimating, safety and effective marketing. The program has helped attendees build networks, establish fruitful joint ventures, win contracts with Turner and other industry leaders and form long-term business relationships.
Encouraging Future Leaders
YouthForce 2020 is a program that encourages kindergarten through high school students to consider careers in the construction industry. Through Youth Force, members of the Turner community work with students interested in design and engineering, fostering those interests and offering themselves as role models and mentors.
Developing a 21st Century Workforce
Turner is a longtime participant in ACE Mentoring, a program that provides high school students the opportunity to work on design and construction assignments in teams that include members of the construction industry, from developers to tradesmen. Students are given access to current technology for estimating, scheduling and modeling their assignment projects and they visit construction sites and offices to see firsthand what goes in to completing a live project.
