The intent of the 95,000 square foot renovation was to preserve the historical integrity and envelope of the building, which was built in 1883 and added to in 1919 and 1937, but completely upgrade the interior. Each addition featured a different structure, including brick-arch construction, steel and two-way slabs. The scope of work included the replacement of more than 400 double-hung windows, exterior masonry restoration, a centralized air conditioning system, upgraded and ADA compliant toilet facilities, a total reconfiguration of space, and installation of a passenger elevator. The project also required lose coordination with the University to tie in the utilities to the steam line that feeds heat for half of the campus and runs underneath the building. The finished renovation and restoration is home to the Math and Psychology departments. The project is seeking LEED Silver certification.
