New York University’s Landmarked Lipton Hall at 33 Washington Square West, is a 16-story, 183,000 square foot student residence. The freshman dormitory includes computer labs, commuter and study lounges, and a resident dining hall. The gut-rehabilitation of the 100+ year building, as well as, inadequate representation of existing field conditions presented many challenges.
Turner worked under the auspices of New York’s Landmarks Preservation Commission while implementing extensive infrastructure upgrades, including the installation of all new MEP and life safety systems. The project team readily fostered communication between the architect, engineer and owner to expedite the decision-making processes in remedying the unforeseen conditions. The dedication of all the parties involved led to the successful completion on schedule.
