project at a glance

The Ohlone College Health Sciences and Technology Center is a 150,000 square foot academic science building, which has achieved LEED Platinum certification. Green features include native plant landscaping and low water consumption.  The building also features the first Northern California application of geo coils, an insulated system that uses the earth to reduce energy cost. The coils, placed approximately nine feet below ground, circulate water through the main mechanical room, thus regulating the temperature within buildings. Through the use of geo coils a much smaller change in the temperature is required, as oppose to outside air, which may vary as much as 10 to 20 degrees.  The Center features difficult structural angles, to achieve better natural lighting, increase focal points and views of the surrounding environment.
