The APG Federal Credit Union Arena and Susquehana Center Renovation included structural, mechanical and architectural upgrades, renovations and additions to the original athletic, academic and pool facility, as well as construction of a 50,000 square foot, 2,500-seat arena and associated spaces.

In order to perform upgrades to the three primary zones -- a central high-bay zone included a gymnasium, pool and fitness room, flanked on each side by single story zones containing men’s and women’s locker rooms, showers, and offices -- the entire building was stripped down to the slab/foundations, steel structure and roof. The renovations in the central high bay included splitting the gym into a practice gym, dance studio, and two multi-purpose labs. The pool was completely renovated including upgraded equipment, concrete deck, floor, wall, and pool tile and plaster, gutters and handicapped ramp. The team added locker rooms between the practice gym and the pool. The fitness center was relocated and classrooms, astudent lounge, referee locker rooms, and offices were added.

The renovation also included system upgrades. All ductwork, piping, and power distribution, air handlers, chiller, generator, and switchgear was replaced, and the building HVAC system was removed and replaced including roof-top package units chiller, and pool economizer units. As certain services were shared with adjacent campus buildings, the project team coordinated tie ins and other work so as not to disrupt service to the rest of the campus.

Sitework included added parking lots, handicap and general public concrete ramps and stairs with railings, sidewalks, and landscaping as well as installation of storm water drainage systems including pocket wetlands and overflow retention basins.
