Opening in 1997, Arthur Ashe Stadium replaced Louis Armstrong Stadium as the primary venue for the U.S. Open tournament. The Stadium has an upper and lower bowl and two levels of suites featuring about 23,000 individual seats, 90 luxury suites, five restaurants and a two-level players' lounge.  Upon completion of the Arthur Ashe Stadium, the Louis Armstrong Stadium was renovated, removing the 23,000-seat upper bowl thus reducing the stadium’s capacity to 10,200 and adding a brick facade to match that of the adjacent Ashe Stadium. Renovations also included mechanical and electrical upgrades, updated audio systems, and improved site lines and amenities. Renovations were also completed to the attached Grandstand, the third largest stadium at the U.S. Open with a seating capacity of 5,000.  Site work included upgraded utilities, 15 additional tournament play courts and 16 additional practice courts and a food court.
