The Greenfield Village IMAX Theater is a 30,000 square foot, 400-seat large format theater that ties into the existing historic Henry Ford Museum. The museum store was also increased in size by 75% and moved to the entrance of the theater bringing it to a more prominent location. The Imax Theater and adjoining gift shop now serve as a revenue-producing venue that assists in supporting other museum programs.
Henry Ford Museum & Greenfield Village was built in 1929. The museum features 18-foot high ceilings, elaborate moldings, antique chandeliers, marble floors and vintage wainscoting. The primary challenge was blending the new addition in with existing buildings designed over 70 years ago. An additional challenge was performing construction while the museum remained in full operation at all times.
