The renovation and expansion of PGE Park (now named Providence Park) to accommodate Major League Soccer’s Portland Timbers consisted of two separate phases of work completed over successive off-seasons.
The renovations will accommodate both baseball and soccer field requirements. The project also included a new cantilevered roof covering most of the seating bowl, club seating with a full-service restaurant, grandstands with concessions, a training facility, entrances, renovated and upgraded locker rooms and restrooms. A low-impact synthetic playing surface accommodates strict FIFA and Major League Soccer guidelines.
The centerpiece of this addition is a sleek cantilevered roof that covers much of the seating bowl. The steel roof structure is largely exposed and spans roughly 120 feet. This feature puts a new stamp on the facility creating a dramatic backdrop in welcoming the second major league franchise to Portland.
The project also included construction of a 12,000 square foot training and rehabilitation center for Providence Health & Services.
