Turner’s Pat Di Filippo Joins Board of Directors of the Urban Green Council, the New York Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council

Turner is a founding member of the NY Chapter

New York, N.Y., January 11, 2010 – Turner Construction Company, the nation’s largest builder of “green buildings” and with more LEED Accredited Professionals on staff than any other firm, announced today Pat A. Di Filippo, Executive Vice President, has been named to the board of the directors of the Urban Green Council, the New York Chapter of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).

As a member of the Board, Mr. Di Filippo will participate in establishing Chapter policies and strategy, setting priorities and providing general oversight of the operation of the Chapter. The Urban Green Council provides a wide range of educational, and networking events for its members and the green building community at large, conducts research and advocates to make cities more sustainable.

The Urban Green Council is the second largest of the USGBC Chapters and works to lead the advancement of sustainability in the urban built environment, and serve as a model for other cities through education, advocacy, collaboration and research.

Turner was a founding member of the Chapter in 2001 and Michael Deane, Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer, and Charlie Avolio, Vice President and New York Operations Manager, served as founding board members. Turner’s green building portfolio in New York represents a diversity of building types and includes the Solaire, the first LEED Certified high rise residential building in the world, and 14 additional projects that have achieved LEED Certification or in the process of becoming certified. These include the LEED Gold Hearst Tower, the LEED Silver Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Research Building and the LEED Gold Haworth New York showroom, the Green roof atop the Morgan Mail Processing Plant for the United States Postal Service and the new Green roof at Lincoln Center.

Turner has made a formal commitment to promoting green building practices. Turner has completed 109 projects that have been LEED Certified by the U. S. Green Building Council (USGBC). An additional 179 Turner projects are LEED Registered. These projects are employing strategies to improve a building’s performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water efficiency, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
