An industry-education partnership of Turner and Pace offers free training courses to leaders of minority- and women-owned small businesses in the construction industry

Turner Construction Company and Pace University’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) are pleased to announce that the owners of nearly 40 small business enterprises have graduated from the Turner School of Construction Management.

Presented for the second year in a row by a partnership of Turner and Pace’s SBDC, the free, seven-week Turner School of Construction Management program focuses on the essentials of the construction management business, from the technical (Building Information Modeling, estimating, procurement) to the managerial (insurance and bonding, lean construction, leadership, safety) to the administrative (accounting, responding to an RFP, document management). It includes courses taught by Turner employees as well as instructors from the Pace SBDC and other industry experts offering targeted programs for Minority and Women-owned Business Enterprises (MWBE) and small business contracting firms. And, in addition to coursework, the program creates opportunities for participants to network with peers, instructors and others in the construction industry, developing strategies for landing new contract opportunities in the private and public sectors.

"For nearly half a century, the Turner School of Construction Management has reflected Turner’s commitment to strengthening the skills and viability of our subcontractor partners,” said Stephanie Burns, Turner vice president and regional director of Community and Citizenship. “Working together with organizations like Pace’s Small Business Development Center, which shares those goals, helps us amplify our message,  and deliver these great courses to more small business owners.”

“The Pace SBDC is thrilled to partner with Turner Construction on co-hosting this program, as well as to provide the program’s MWBEs and other small business contractors with free 1:1 sessions with the center’s professional business advisors to help access financing, develop business plans and financial projections, and implement strategies for increasing sales,” said Andrew Flamm, director of the Pace SBDC. “We would also like to thank Empire State Development (ESD) for their support of this exciting program.”
