May 23, 2012

After receiving the signatures of more than a thousand Columbus residents, the final beam for Ohio State University's Wexner Medical Center Cancer and Critical Care Center was raised and affixed in a topping-out ceremony.

At the topping-out event, Ohio Governor John R. Kasich and Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman offered congratulations for achievement of the project milestone and commented on the positive impact the medical center expansion will have on the quality of patient care at the Medical Center.

The command to “Lift that beam” was cheerfully led by Dr. E. Gordon Gee, president, The Ohio State University; Dr. Steven Gabbe, CEO of The Ohio State University Medical Center; Dr. Michael Caligiuri, director of Ohio State’s Comprehensive Cancer Center and CEO of Ohio State’s James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, and an audience of University medical professionals, students, construction workers, and supporters.
