Turner Awarded the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial

February 28, 2011

The Disabled Veterans' LIFE Memorial Foundation, Inc. announced that Turner subsidiary Tompkins Builders, Inc. will serve as the general contractor for The American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial, just off the National Mall in Washington, DC.

The Memorial will honor disabled veterans of all wars, both living and deceased, as well as their families and caregivers.  Situated on a 2.4 acre parcel of land, the focal point of the Memorial will be a star-shaped reflecting pool, its surface broken by a single eternal flame.  A grove of trees will stand sentry beside the pool, signifying the persistence of hope.

The Ceremonial Groundbreaking for the memorial took place on November 10, 2010 and was attended by actor and Disabled Veterans’ spokesman, Gary Sinise, and Nancy Pelosi, former Speaker of the House.
