Hotel will Feature Green Building Elements for the Benefit of Guests and Staff
The construction management team of Turner Construction Company, the nation’s leading general builder, and Smoot Construction have been selected by the Franklin County Convention Facilities Authority to provide pre-construction and construction management services for the $92 million Columbus Convention Center Hotel in Columbus, Ohio. Completion is scheduled for 2012.
The 532-room hotel features a 10-story atrium, ballroom, meeting and banquet rooms with 4-star finishes, a full-service restaurant and lounge and a fitness center. The scope of work also includes the construction of a bridge connector to the Greater Columbus Convention Center, a vehicle ramp to the parking facility and a pedestrian entrance to the garage.
The project is being constructed to achieve a LEED Silver certification from the United States Green Building Council. Green features of the facility include a 33% reduction in energy/carbon usage, enhanced commissioning, construction waste recycling, use of regional materials with recycled content and low-emitting materials, bicycle storage and changing rooms, dual-flush toilets and low-flow fixtures, individual occupant lighting and thermal control and a Green Seal certification for Lodging Properties.
“The TurnerSmoot team is proud to continue our long-term relationship with the Franklin County Convention Facilities Authority and to participate in enhancing the convention experience in Columbus,“ said Kyle Rooney, Vice President and General Manager of Turner’s Columbus operations.
Turner and Smoot have worked together to manage large and complex projects in Columbus for more than 15 years and share a culture of commitment to client service and building excellence.
