Turner Adds Nine LEED APs to Indiana Office in Six Months
Indianapolis, Ind. January 7, 2009 - Nine additional members of Turner's Indiana staff received their LEED Professional Accreditation (AP) from the United States Green Building Council in the past six months. To encourage this effort, Turner established the LEEDing by Example incentive program for its employees in July of 2008. Today, 24% of Turner's operational staff boasts the LEED AP distinction.
"The growth in Green building in Indiana coupled with our distinction as the Nation's leading Green contractor highlighted a desire to increase the number of accredited professionals on staff," said Michael Kaiman, Vice President and General Manager of Turner's Indiana Operations.
Additional steps Turner is taking to deliver projects in the growing green building market include producing a Green Operations Manual, requiring "Green" training for Turner management staff and all subcontractors working on Green projects and enhancing our construction waste diversion efforts through implementation on all jobs, and better data collection and reporting of our efforts.
Turner's projects in Indiana which have received LEED Certification or are currently LEED Registered include: Indiana State Forensic and Health Science Laboratories, New Indianapolis Airport - Landside Construction, Indiana University Biology and Research Teaching Preserve and the Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center. Turner is also providing construction services on three additional projects, which will soon become LEED registered.
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System, developed by the United States Green Building Council, is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED provides a roadmap for measuring and documenting success for every building type and phase of a building’s lifecycle. LEED Professional Accreditation distinguishes building professionals with the knowledge and skills to successfully steward the integrated design and LEED certification process. LEED Accredited Professionals have demonstrated a thorough understanding of green building practices and principles and familiarity with LEED requirements, resources, and processes.
