Turner provided construction management services for the 1.3 million sq. ft. Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in a joint venture with URS Corporation. This one-of-a-kind facility is one of the first total replacement projects built in accordance with the California seismic safety requirements as a result of the 1994 Northridge earthquake. With the Northridge earthquake’s Richter magnitude of 6.7 causing significant damage to the facility, the decision was made to build a new facility rather than renovate. The building was built to withstand an 8.4 Richter Magnitude earthquake with no significant structural failures.
The 520-bed facility provides large, sunny, private rooms with magnificent views and rooming-in for family members as well as wireless Internet access for patients and guests. The top five floors feature three quarter-round towers filled with patient rooms and two triangular wings centrally connected for the 154-bed intensive care unit. The facility houses 23 operating rooms and interventional procedure rooms using the most advanced surgical concepts with full audiovisual integration systems. Two helipads are located on the roof with trauma elevators to rapidly transport patients.
The hospital also encompasses the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA as well as the Mattel Children's Hospital at UCLA in space especially designed for newborns to young adults.
