Turner managed construction of the University of Cincinnati’s $64 Million Student Recreation Center. The 353,000 sq. ft. structure is a complex design by internationally acclaimed architect, Thomas Mayne of Morphosis. The structure is composed of three connected buildings, each with its own architectural form and programmable function.
The central building, defined by its sweeping curtain wall and barrel-vault roof, houses the recreation center, which includes a leisure pool, a six court gymnasium, locker facilities, recreation offices, a food service center capable of seating 600 people, a study lounge, a weight/fitness area, a climbing wall, an Olympic-sized varsity training lap pool, and various multi-purpose rooms.
The building plays a large part in defining the Main Street Corridor, the centerpiece of the University’s effort to create a “campus life” environment to transform what has traditionally been a commuter-oriented university. This project was LEED Certified by the United States Green Building Council in July 2007.
