Turner provided preconstruction and construction management services, utilizing the construction manager-at-risk delivery method, for the new 101,000-square foot recreation and fitness center at the Jacksonville State University (JSU) campus. The building exterior of the $32-million facility is a composite of curtainwall, brick, and metal panels. The Recreation and Fitness Center includes a three-court gymnasium, weight and fitness areas, a wellness suite, an elevated walking track, racquetball courts, a leisure pool and whirlpool, a 40-plus-foot indoor rock-climbing wall, and locker rooms. The building also features a social lounge area, a video gaming lounge, and The Peak Café, which serves coffee and snacks.

The project is the first CM-at-Risk university project in Alabama, setting a precedent for future projects in the state. The facility will be instrumental to JSU in establishing new student development programs and improving the overall student experience. Another unique aspect of the JSU Recreation and Fitness Center is that it was the first Public-Private Partnership undertaken by the University.
