project at a glance

Phase one of the Terminal 2/Boarding Area D renovation and expansion included a 500,000 square foot conversion of the international terminal into a 640,000 square foot 14-gate domestic terminal for American Airlines and Virgin America. The project included new passenger loading bridges with aircraft support systems, new inbound and outbound baggage handling systems (including in-line EDS), mezzanine level access to the APM system and mechanical and electrical upgrades. Critical to the construction was maintaining the airport’s emergency communications center and air traffic control tower located above and adjacent to the work area.
