International Convention Centre Birmingham

project at a glance

The 11-hall International Convention Centre totals 54,000 square meters. Each hall, including the 2,500 square meter Symphony Hall, home to the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, boasts features such as interpretation booths, audio-visual control rooms, a massive stage and fly towers. A centrally located pedestrian mall links the canal-side restaurants and shops with the convention center.

Turner used reinforced concrete construction for the slabs, beams and walls to provide a sound base for the world-class acoustics. The roofs for several halls are lightweight systems on clearspan steel structures which span two ways to distribute the loads associated with exhibitions and concerts. Granite cladding was used along the prominent elevations of Broad Street and the main entrance at King Alfred's Place.
