Turner Serves as a Sponsor of the AGC National Student Championship

The AGC National Student Championship takes place annually each Spring and coincides with the AGC National Convention. The national competition includes teams from the regionally-qualifying undergraduate student competitions. Each division is assigned a problem designed by the Division Sponsors from real-life projects or project scenarios. The two-day simulated construction project allows the teams to showcase their abilities and be evaluated on the following criteria: estimating, bidding, planning and scheduling; understanding of sound construction techniques; thoughtful methodology; presentation skills; and creativity. First, second and third place awards are awarded in the Commercial Building, Design-Build and Heavy-Civil divisions.

Competition History
Turner has proudly sponsored the Commercial Building division of the AGC National Student Championship for the past seven years. We as a company regard the competition as a chance to teach a group of bright and highly motivated students what it is like to work on a real life project while interacting with real life clients. Turner staff volunteer their time to participate in the planning process of each project, serve as judges throughout the four-day event and continuously provide feedback to all participants entered in the competition. The competition allows Turner employees to have an opportunity to interact with some of the brightest construction management students from across the country, some of whom could become potential new hires at Turner.

Turner also served as a sponsor of the inaugural “AGC Campus” component of the AGC National Convention. The AGC Campus brings together recent college graduates and students with leading construction employers and industry experts for two days of interactive learning, recruiting and networking opportunities. Additionally, students from a local science magnet high school attended the event to increase their exposure to careers in the construction industry. During the two day symposium, Turner made presentations to the AGC student chapters and displayed an exhibit booth staff with Turner employes to discuss careers in construction.

Final rankings for the 2009 Commercial Building Division inlcuded:

1st Place: Colorado State University
