Turner Construction Company Honored For Community Service
Grace Heffernan Arnold Guild to Present Award at the 28th Annual Hutch Holiday Gala
Seattle, WA – Oct. 7, 2003 – The Grace Heffernan Arnold Guild announced today that it has chosen Turner Construction Company as the 2003 recipient of its Distinguished Community Service Award. The Guild is recognizing Turner for its significant philanthropic efforts within Seattle-area communities. Turner is the first corporation to be honored in the award’s 12-year history.
The Arnold Guild will present its Distinguished Community Service Award to Turner on Saturday, December 6 at the 28th annual Hutch Holiday Gala (http://www.hutchgala.com/). This year’s Gala, the largest single fundraiser benefiting Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, will be held in the Grand Ballroom of the Sheraton Seattle Hotel & Towers.
The Arnold Guild was established in 1975 in memory of Grace Heffernan Arnold, a tireless philanthropist in the Seattle community. The Guild’s primary goal is to support Fred Hutchinson in the elimination of cancer as a cause of human suffering and death. The volunteer group plays an integral role in planning and executing the annual Hutch Holiday Gala and has raised more than $23 million to benefit cancer research at Fred Hutchinson.
“Turner Construction Company’s outstanding support and dedication to our local communities embodies the characteristics of the Distinguished Community Service Award,” said Laura Welle, president of the Arnold Guild. “We have a great sense of gratitude toward Turner for their generous contributions to those who are in need in the Seattle community.”
In addition to Fred Hutchinson, Turner supports numerous local non-profit organizations including Big Brothers Big Sisters of King County, Boy and Girl Scouts of America, Salvation Army, the Corporate Council for the Arts, Children’s Orthopedic Hospital, Jim Lambright Niemann-Pick Foundation, Junior Achievement, The Children's Museum, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Susan G. Komen Foundation, United Way, Harborview Medical Center, American Cancer Society and several programs within Seattle Public Schools, amongst others.
