Topping Out Of The Taipei 101 Tower In Taipei, Taiwan, Set For July 1, 2003

TAIPEI 101 Development Slated for Completion in November 2004

Taipei, Taiwan, June 27, 2003 – Republic of China President Chen Shui-bian will attend the TAIPEI 101 tower topping out ceremony in Taipei on July 1, 2003, according to the Taiwan branch of Turner International Industries, Inc., the project and construction manager for the assignment. Turner International Industries, Inc. is a sister company to Turner Construction Company, the leading general builder in the U.S.  To date, Turner Construction Company has built or managed the construction of 19 of the 100 tallest buildings in the world, as defined by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat in Chicago, Ill.

Application will be made to the Council on Tall Buildings, for certification of TAIPEI 101 tower as the tallest building in the world upon its completion next year. The tower will rise to an overall height of 508 meters (1,667 feet). By comparison, the two tallest buildings, as presently defined by the Council on Tall Buildings, Petronas Towers 1 and 2 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, are 452 meters (1,483 feet) in height.

The Taipei architectural practice of C.Y. Lee and Partner provided consultancy services for the project.

TAIPEI 101 is a 374,000 m2 commercial development offering 198,347 m2 (2,336,000 sq. ft.) of office space, 77,033 m2 (796,000 sq. ft.) of retail space, and 83,000 m2 (893,000 sq. ft.) of parking space for more than 1,800 vehicles.

The tower incorporates a number of unusual architectural and structural features.
