Turner provided construction management services for this 1.6 million sq.ft. terminal complex, the largest single project of the $1.4 billion modernization program at O’Hare International Airport.
Terminal One, United Airline's 42-gate facility, is composed of a pair of parallel, 1,600 ft. concourse buildings separated by an 815 ft. expanse to allow aircraft to taxi in two directions at once. The front building includes passenger ticketing and baggage claim facilities as well as gate rooms adjacent to 14 aircraft parking positions. The rear satellite concourse has gate rooms for up to 28 planes. The buildings are connected underground by a tunnel of moving sidewalks and adjoining walkways for passenger transport carts. The superstructure is a framework of folded truss steel with a glass skin. Barrel vaulted circulation spines run the length of both buildings.
