The modernization of Douglas High School expanded the facilities to to accommodate ninth and tenth grade students, with added general classrooms, science labs, career/technical education spaces and expansion of the core facilities such as physical education areas, multipurpose rooms, food service areas, and office/support spaces. The project also included a number of site and utility improvements.

Construction was phased to allow for continued occupancy of the school, with the first phase focused on code-required upgrades and renovations to the gymnasiums and the second phase focused on construction of additional facilities. The final phase involved interior renovations to the kitchen, commons and classroom areas.
