Renovations were made to Salem Hospital's Building B including the lobby, cafe, corridors, lavatories and conference rooms. The building's lobby features two-story, floor-to-ceiling windows filtering in a large amount of natural light. A smoked glass wall creates a subtle division from the entry to a quiet waiting area for patients and visitors. Floor-to-ceiling glass cases along the corridor display memorabilia from the hospital's early days as a nursing school dating back to the 1890's. A walnut wall sculpture created by LeRoy Setziol commemorates the history of Salem Hospital paying symbolic tribute to Max Gehlhar, a Salem civic leader and businessman whose family commissioned the art as a gift to the hospital and the community. The sculpture has been a centerpiece of the hospital's main lobby for over 30 years until it was relocated during the renovation.
