project at a glance

The Johnson & Wales University Wildcat Center is a 35,000 square foot, tilt-wall structure. The recreation center contains a three-story office/administrative and events wing, a two-story fitness and locker-room wing, and a one story athletic center.

This building presents a very strong image to all people entering the campus from either of the major eastwest thoroughfares. The southeast exposure of the building has bearing walls with punched windows to provide an urban face and the northwest facade has a curtainwall. The skin of the structure is a combination of curtainwall, tiltwall concrete and aluminum canopies.

The three-story structure is anchored at the ends by sculptural stair towers and in the middle by a semicircular form serving outdoor elevated spaces, as well as the main conference room for the administrative functions. The semicircular form centers the exterior round plaza that is the beginning of the campus commons and outdoor cyber cafe.
